EVENT DETAILS:

Vanessa Nordyke will share CASA’s history, mission, objectives, and return on investment. Vanessa will cover the challenges faced by children in foster care, and the solutions provided by CASA. Vanessa will also present information on what it takes to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate.  Please join us to learn about this critical service for Oregon's children who must navigate the justice system.

Born and raised in Salem, Oregon, Vanessa Nordyke is the Executive Director of CASA of Marion County, which advocates for children in foster care. Vanessa joined CASA in January 2023, after 15 years as an Assistant Attorney General at the Oregon Department of Justice. As a Salem City Councilor, Vanessa focuses on affordable housing, addressing homelessness, and providing opportunities to uplift domestic violence, survivors, at-risk youth, low-income seniors and other vulnerable residents. Vanessa is a graduate of Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and University of Oregon School of Law. At DOJ, Vanessa handled hundreds of child abuse cases and other cases. She helped found the Marion County Veterans Treatment Court.  In 2018, Vanessa made history as the youngest ever-elected President of the Oregon State Bar, a unified bar of over 15,000 lawyers and judges. As President, Vanessa oversaw the creation of statewide mental health and substance training for all Oregon lawyers, and led OSB’s first Wellness Summit. Vanessa graduated with honors from Georgetown University School of Foreign Service with a Bachelors of Science in International Political Economy in 2002.
